Lake Hiawatha Fire Department

Rappelling Class 26 June 2004

Besides our rigorous schedule of Drills the men also attend classes at a variety of Fire Academies in New Jersey and New York. Some of the classes are mandatory, like Firefighter 1, basic Hazardous Materials & Incident Command Training. Others, like this Rappelling class are optional. The men sacrificed a beautiful summer day so they could become better firefighters!

In the photographs below we are at the Morris County Fire & Police Academy. The Academy has a staff of certified instructors who provide training in modern classrooms and on a state-of-the-art gas powered fire ground. In the building below they are working in/on "The Tower". The pictures were taken by Captain Jay Wieners.

Firefighter Skomial Exits the fourth floor window and descends from the tower.

Firefighter Stoia takes his turn at descending.

Firefighter Stoia practices a rescue with Firefighter Beg taking the victim being saved.

Firefighter Tracey rapidly descends, kind of reminds me of the Swat Team in the movie The Blues Brothers

Firefighter Wellman goes over the rail and down to the net.

Captain Wieners makes his descent with style and skill.
