Lake Hiawatha Fire Department

Christmas Candy 19 December 2004

In addition to protecting the lives and property of Lake Hiawatha's citizens & businesses, we occasionally take a break. Every December for about 40 years the firefighters of LHFD have had the pleasure of escorting Santa throughout the town to give candy canes to all the boys & girls. This is no small feat considering Santa & his helpers walk the entire district, every street & avenue!

Some of the men stay in the firehouse and spend the day cooking, the men are served breakfast & lunch to keep them warm and full of energy. After all the candy canes have been given out and Santa has returned to the North Pole for his final preparations for Christmas the firefighters & their families return to the firehouse for a big dinner.

There is a Santa on each truck. This year we were loaned a sleigh and the Chiefs Car was pressed into service as a makeshift reindeer. Here we see Santa with his helpers Firefighters Skomial & Tracey, Asst Chief Sonzogni and Chief Golden.
