The first brand new custom built fire truck to go into
service with Lake Hiawatha was this 1961 Mack C-85 pumper equipped with a 750
G.P.M. Two-stage pump with a 500 gallon water tank, two booster reels, 150 feet
of pre-connected 1½ inch hose in a special compartment located at the rear of
the apparatus and was designated Engine 641.
The Mack also carried 1000 feet of 3 inch, 1000 feet of 2½ inch hose
along with a additional 400 feet of 1½ inch hose Over the years the truck was
re-painted and re-lettered. The
Mack was purchased new for $27,000.00 and sold to a equipment dealer in Texas
during 1984 for $8,000.00. The
truck is still in service in Texas. It has recently been converted to a BBQ
truck, here are some pictures of that unusual conversion. |
